The Bahamian house by the late architect Thierry Despont is asking $42 million

The most expensive property to hit the market in the Bahamas is a $42 million oceanfront property on Harbor Island.

The mansion was originally built by Millard “Mickey” Drexler, former CEO of J.Crew, in 2010. Drexler hired the late and legendary architect Thierry Despont to design the home.

Drexler had also hired Despont—known for renovating the Statue of Liberty and whose private clients included Bill Gates—to renovate the Andy Warhol compound in Montauk, NY after he bought it.

The residence, known as Zehava, is one of 12 homes in an exclusive pink sand enclave known as the Narrows and is the only one on the market. Neighbors include Ronald Perelman, Arpad Busson and India Hicks, who is King Charles’ godson. Brooke Shields is also building a house nearby, sources said.

The complex sits on 3.5 acres at the northernmost tip of the Narrows, said listing broker Matthew Marco of Bond Bahamas.

Zehava comes with a 4,500-square-foot main house that has two bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms, along with a chef’s kitchen and a wine cellar.

There is also a two-bedroom, two-bath guest house that is 2,000 square feet and comes with a full kitchen and additional storage, as well as a two-car garage. Another 1,000 square foot guest house features two bedrooms and one bathroom.

The sale also includes plans to build an even larger home on the property.

The main corner house features a sloping roofline, for several vantage points. Inside, ceilings range from 10 feet high to 30 feet high, and there are also geometric glass panes and wood walls that rotate vertically to create a sense of fluid indoor/outdoor living, Marco said.

Materials include solid poured concrete, Brazilian hardwood, and cream-colored travertine stone. Landscaped areas include hundreds of palm trees and a pickle field. There is also a generator and a water filtration system.

If Zehava sells for as much as she’s asking, it will be a record — the current most expensive Bahamian home sale is a $39.49 million residence known as Apsara in Nassau’s Old Fort Bay gated community. Marco also reiterated both sides of that deal.
